In order to foster the political and economic empowerment of women in situations of displacement, the BMZ launched the “Action Network on Forced Displacement – Women as Agents of Change” in October 2020. The global network gives refugee women international visibility and a voice. It serves as a platform for the self-representation and participation of refugee women in politics, business and society.

The Action Network is also committed to providing local support for women and girls on the move. The Action Network members therefore help decide on the countries and advise on project selection for the specially established Funding Initiative on Forced Displacement at the United Nations Women's Peace and Humanitarian Fund (External link) (WPHF).

To date, 144 projects with 216 civil society organisations in eleven countries have been approved with BMZ funds (as of December 2024). The projects support displaced women and girls in improving their socio-economic and political participation.
