Roadbuilding Using a German building material to fill the craters caused by the war

IBS, a medium-sized company based in Baden-Württemberg, Germany, is supporting the reconstruction of war-damaged roads in Ukraine using innovative, resource-efficient technology.

IBS has been operating in the western Ukrainian city of Lviv since 2025, repairing damaged roads using its proprietary building material “NovoCrete”. This new material is mixed with whatever remains from the destroyed road and the result of this process is then compacted. This requires less raw materials and energy, and is significantly faster than conventional methods.

The collaboration between IBS and the city of Lviv came about through the BMZ’s develoPPP funding programme, which facilitates contacts with local partners in Ukraine and provides support with financing. For IBS, working in Ukraine also means investing in the future, since the project serves as a showcase and the need for repairs following the attacks by Russia is great. At the same time, Ukrainian local authorities are benefiting from this cost-effective and environmentally friendly solution for the urgently needed rehabilitation of their infrastructure.

We’d like to establish a foothold in Ukraine, as we see it as a major market for us in the future. And every kilometre of road we repair has a positive impact on the people in Ukraine and boosts the country’s economy.
