Cambodia Creating a poverty register

Many partner countries in Germany’s development cooperation do not have a reliable birth register, including Cambodia. The poorest people in particular are often unregistered. The BMZ has therefore supported the Cambodian government in setting up a poverty register (IDPoor) in order to identify vulnerable households.

This register proved highly valuable during the COVID-19 pandemic. Within a period of just ten days, 50,000 people who had suddenly lost their sources of income due to the pandemic were added to the register. The poverty register enabled rapid support payments to be made to 2.7 million people.

In future, it can also be used to identify households that are particularly vulnerable to climate-related crises.
