Multi-donor platform GET.pro

The global energy transition is an enormous endeavour because CO2 emissions must be drastically reduced while, at the same time, the growing demand for energy in developing countries and emerging economies also needs to be met. To do that requires targeted and coordinated international cooperation.

GET.pro (Global Energy Transformation Programme) provides part of the solution. The multi-donor platform is a way for European players to join forces and work together on reaching the international energy and climate goals. By working together, more can be achieved. The idea is to improve the general environment for investing in a global and socially just energy transition. GET.pro is active worldwide, but with a focus on Africa and Latin America, because energy demand there is especially high. In addition to the EU and Germany, Norway, the Netherlands, Sweden and Austria also participate in the platform.

GET.pro uses mutually complementary measures:

  • The Africa-EU Energy Partnership: GET.pro is fostering the strategic political dialogue between Africa and Europe by supporting the Secretariat of the Africa-EU Energy Partnership (AEEP).
  • GET.transform: Advises partner countries on switching their energy systems to renewable energies. This involves creating the necessary enabling environment and the right regulatory frameworks.
  • GET.invest: Mobilises private investment in renewable energies. It offers project developers and businesses advice and helps them with getting access to financing.
  • The Green Hydrogen Business Alliance (H2BA): GET.pro is supporting the market introduction of sustainable green hydrogen and PtX in partner countries.

Whilst GET.transform, GET.invest and H2BA work directly with private and public sector partners, GET.pro offers a shared platform for all donors and measures. The platform can be used to manage and coordinate activities and to monitor and evaluate results. This increases efficiency and avoids administrative duplications.

In the period up to 2028, GET.pro intends to promote 148 renewable energy projects and conclude financing agreements that will provide 6.5 million people with sustainable energy. It is intended that, by then, numerous energy systems will be better equipped to handle large shares of renewables, and the European initiatives in Africa will be better coordinated with one another.
