Core area “Sustainable economic development, training and employment” Vocational training and sustainable financial market development

The Brazilian government is working to re-industrialise the country and has adopted an Ecological Transformation Plan with the goal of achieving structural change in the economy and the environment. The priorities of the Brazilian government are to foster job creation and green financial system development.

Objective of cooperation

The BMZ is supporting Brazil's efforts to develop a green economy and foster a socially inclusive financial market. The objective of these efforts is to improve employment opportunities in environmentally friendly industries by providing relevant vocational training, and to make Brazil's financial market more sustainable and socially more responsible.

Processes and project examples

  • Vocational training. A sustainable and socially just economy requires a labour force with the right skills. The BMZ therefore supports initial and ongoing training in green industries such as renewable energy, bioeconomy and circular economy, for example by providing advice to ministries and education facilities on the development of education programmes, with a special focus on women and vulnerable groups.

  • A sustainable financial market is key for fostering sustainable investment and the protection of the climate and the environment. The BMZ therefore supports the efforts of Brazil's finance ministry and central bank to draft and implement the requisite environmental, climate and social standards. This is helping to make the international financial architecture more sustainable.
