Petra Diroll is the new spokesperson for the BMZ

Petra Diroll is to take over as the head of the BMZ press office on 3 February 2014.

Copyright: BMZThe 47-year-old journalist, who worked at the German TV broadcasting company ARD for many years, last held the post of spokesperson for the Berlin Senator for Economics, Technology and Research. Prior to that she was involved in a project for the further de­vel­op­ment of the UN Millennium De­vel­op­ment Goals.

Diroll worked in Bonn and Berlin as a correspondent for the radio station Bayerischer Rundfunk and she was also a member of the board of the Federal Press Conference for seven years. After switching from journalism to communications at the ARD's General Secretariat, she then went on to become the head of press and public relations at the Office of the Federal President.

Diroll began her career in journalism in 1989 working for the audio and video news agency RUFA in Bonn as a volunteer trainee. After that she worked as a presenter, editor and managing editor at Antenne Bayern, B5 aktuell and Bayern 2. Diroll also worked for the German stations SWR, WDR and NDR as a radio and TV reporter, and as an editor on the TV programme ARD-Themenwochen.

Diroll will begin working at the BMZ on 15 January. After four years in the press office, Sebastian Lesch, the previous spokesperson for the BMZ and head of the press division, will begin a long-planned period of parental leave at the end of January, after which he will take up a different post within the Ministry.
