More and more consumers want to be sure that the gold in their jewelry has been produced responsibly and has not contributed to human rights violations or environmental damage.

The Federal Institute for Geosciences and Natural Resources (BGR) is also dealing with this topic actively. This is now the second workshop (18.06.2019 in Karlsruhe) BGR has organized for "Responsible Gold in Germany" on behalf of the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). Following the publication of the market study for responsible gold in Germany, the 30 participants from civil society, science, gold refineries and the jewelry sector discussed solutions for responsible gold from small-scale mining in developing countries.
The aim of the second workshop was to share experiences from individual project activities and to decide how the discussion format for responsible gold in Germany should be designed in the long term.

In addition, the workshop included interesting lectures on the developmental perspective on Responsible Gold, the launch of the Better Gold Initiative, the Alliance for Responsible Mining's CRAFT standard, and contributions to implementing responsible supply chains by Levin Sources and Thomas Becker Schmuck from the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

The interest of the participants to continue the format and further deepen the cooperation is great, so that further events are planned for the future.
