A world without hunger is possible!

More than 800 million people are suffering from hunger. Worldwide, one person in every nine will go to bed hungry tonight. And that is not all! More than a further billion people are suffering from "hidden hunger", meaning that their diet contains too few vital nutrients or is severely unbalanced.

This means that, in total, almost two billion people are not in a position to live dignified and healthy lives because either they do not have enough food or the food they have is lacking in nutrients.

No human right is violated as frequently as the human right to food. Hunger is a catastrophe for everyone affected, and it is the greatest obstacle to development in poor countries. Hunger can lead to flight and forced migration, as well as to hopelessness and violence.

And yet, a world without hunger is possible!

Each and every one of us can help to build such a world – either as an individual or a consumer, or by taking an active stance in politics, business, academia, our churches or civil society.

In our "ONE WORLD – No Hunger" initiative, we have made the human right to food one of our key concerns. We want to do our bit to ensure that every single person in the world has enough to eat – now and in the future!

Germany's Development Minister Gerd Müller says:

"Hunger is not only a scandal, it is also the greatest obstacle to development."
