The German government promotes tropical forest research. Germany was for instance one of the founding members of the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR). A CGIAR research programme on the topic of forests, trees and agroforestry is conducting studies on forest management in more than 35 countries in Asia, Africa and Latin America.
