Population dynamics: A challenge and an opportunity for poor countries

The Earth currently has more than 7.5 billion inhabitants. By 2050 the world population will probably have grown to 9.7 billion people. Population dynamics is already having a major influence on development processes. Taking into account the demographic realities in the individual countries and regions is a huge challenge. At the same time, however, there are also opportunities for sustainable development over the next few decades. more

Involvement in almost all areas of German development cooperation

In almost all sectors of German development cooperation, measures are already being carried out that impact directly or indirectly on the population dynamics of a country. On the one hand the causes of specific demographic trends are being addressed, on the other hand people are being helped to adapt to these trends and the resultant economic and social problems. Population dynamics require that German development cooperation programmes offer adaptation and cooperation activities that go beyond what has been done before. That means, above all, strengthening the activities in selected areas and seeing population dynamics more as a cross-cutting topic which is implemented accordingly. more
