Chad: Cooperation in action Climate change adaptation in the Lake Chad basin
Measures for adapting agriculture to climate change in the Lake Chad basin
To improve the resilience of the rural population, support is being provided through German development cooperation for measures such as the establishment of local risk management systems. This includes the formation of local bodies, the implementation of risk reduction activities such as introducing irrigation technologies and improved seeds, awareness-raising, and the local collection, compilation and dissemination of information on climate change. This work is done on a decentralised basis, at both the local and the cross-border level, and also in cooperation with neighbouring countries within the Chad Basin Commission. Additional support is provided for the development of climate-smart strategies and cultivation techniques with a view to enhancing the resilience of the local people.
