The Invest in African Mining Indaba is Africa’s largest mining conference. Each year more than 7000 participants meet in Cape Town to discuss market trends, innovations and approaches to make mining more sustainable. From 6th – 9th Feb., BGR and GIZ, in the framework of their jointly implemented Extractives and Development Program, presented results from their work in the field of “Good Governance in the Extractive Sector”, “Local Economic Development”, “Capacity Building for Negotiations in the Mining Sector” and “Artisanal and Small Scale Mining” in partnership with the World Bank, the African Development Bank, the Intergovernmental Forum on Mining, Metals and Sustainable Development (IGF) as well as the African Minerals Development Center (AMDC). After a great participation at E&D events, the conference team is now back with excellent feedback, new impressions and deepened relations with its partner institutions around the globe.

The Indaba further marked the launch of RAW Talks, a new communication format. RAW Talks is an interview series, highlighting the ideas and experiences of innovative thinkers in resource policy and economics. At its core, it addresses the question of how resource wealth may be translated into a broader and sustainable economic development. The interviews are focused and straight to the point. They can be viewed on the RAW website www.rawtalks.org. E&D is a co-developer and sponsor of RAW Talks.

For further information on “Good Governance in the Extractive Sector” and “RAW Talks” please contact  Åsa Borssén , for more information on “Local Economic Development” please contact  Johannes Danz.
