Fairness in global trade

The world trade system

Technological progress in the fields of communication and production are opening up borders between countries at an ever quicker pace and reducing the effectiveness of trade policies whose objective is to make a distinction between home and abroad. This is especially evident in the case of "transportable" services such as software development. Practically any location in the world could serve as a potential production site or sales market.

Fair rules in international trade

The aim of the German government's development policy is to help establish a stable and socially responsible world economic order. An open, fair trade system that is based on hard and fast rules and that does not discriminate against developing countries is an integral part of the "global partnership" whose establishment is one of the eight goals set out in the Millennium Declaration. Based on that the German government is committed to giving more room to the interests of developing and transition countries at international conferences and during negotiations so that they and their products stand a chance on the global market.
