The Initiative for Climate and Environmental Protection
In 2005 a special facility for renewable energies and energy efficiency was created at the KfW Entwicklungsbank. The response in partner countries was so great that the credit volume of EUR 500 million, initially planned for five years, was already exhausted after three.
This is why in 2007 the KfW – on the BMZ's behalf – launched the Initiative for Climate and Environmental Protection. This initiative continues the work of the Special Facility. It is planned that between 2008 and 2011, at least EUR 2.4 billion will be made available through the Initiative in the form of low interest loans and grants for climate- and environment-related investment in developing countries.
