International Finance Corporation
The International Finance Corporation (IFC) was founded in 1956 and has 182 members (as at: October 2009). Germany was a founding member and holds 5.44 per cent of the subscribed capital of some 2.37 billion US dollars (as at: June 2009).
To promote the private sector in developing countries, the IFC provides loans and equity finance. It also provides advisory services on issues pertaining to privatisation and restructuring. IFC investments focus on the financial markets, industry, services and infrastructure. In the fiscal year 2009, it promoted 447 projects in 103 countries worth a total of 10.5 billion US dollars. Germany holds 5.35 per cent of the voting rights in the IFC.
