International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes

The International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID) arbitrates investment disputes between governments and foreign investors. Currently it is handling 119 ongoing disputes (as at: October 2009).

ICSID also provides advisory services, undertakes research and issues publications with respect to the legal provisions governing foreign investment. ICSID is an independent body within the World Bank group and currently has 144 members (as at: October 2009). Germany has been a member since ICSID was first founded in 1966.
