Cooperation with non-governmental organisations
Development information and education work relies on the involvement of individual citizens, either as volunteers or in their professional capacity. Many large and small non-governmental organisations (NGOs) have acquired valuable experience through working directly and closely with civil society organisations in developing countries, and can make use of this experience in their education work.
NGOs are thus important partners for the BMZ’s development and education work in Germany – the Ministry spends the biggest share of its funding for projects and programmes in this field on development education work. Through its "action group programme" and the "development policy education support programme", the BMZ supports various education services and programmes, from smaller evening events up to large-scale campaigns.

The BMZ is also keen to achieve synergies between government and non-governmental education work and non-governmental organisations, for example by supporting regional conferences for development NGOs that the Federal Government and Länder also attend.
