The individual players (selection)
Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ)
The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) was formed on 1 January 2011 through the merger of the three implementing organisations for Technical Cooperation, the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Technische Zusammenarbeit (GTZ), the German Development Service (DED) and InWEnt (Capacity Building International, Germany).
The GIZ brings together the skills and many years of experience of these three organisations. The merger is an important element of the reform of development policy structures in Germany that was agreed upon in the present government’s coalition agreement.
German Development Minister Dirk Niebel made the following statement in this regard on 16 December 2010: "The merger of the public development agencies GTZ, DED and InWEnt will result in enormous efficiency gains and the elimination of structural duplication, and will enable political control over development work to be reclaimed for the German government. In creating the GIZ, we will be setting up a lean, economically efficient, transparent implementing agency that will be an international showcase for Germany."
The new organisation has headquarters in Bonn and Eschborn. Current office locations, including those of InWEnt, have been retained.
