The Role of the Länder and Mu­nic­i­pal­i­ties in Development Cooperation

The Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) regards the 16 federal states, or Länder, and the mu­nic­i­pal­i­ties, of which there are around 11,500 in Germany, as important partners in shaping German de­vel­op­ment policy. Their ac­tiv­i­ties in the field of de­vel­op­ment in­for­ma­tion and education make a major con­tri­bu­tion to raising the public's aware­ness and under­standing of de­vel­op­ment co­op­e­ra­tion. Their pro­grammes and partner­ships in de­vel­op­ing coun­tries also reflect their com­mit­ment to development.
