Bonn office
Our main office
The main office of the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) is in Bonn.
When it was decided to move the seat of German government from Bonn to Berlin, the 1994 Berlin/Bonn Act stipulated that, by way of compensation, the Bonn region would be developed into a "centre of development policy, national, international and supranational bodies".
Since then, more than 150 international organisations and NGOs have set up offices in the Bonn region, including several United Nations bodies. Also the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit gGmbH (GIZ) is based in Bonn. Since 2003, Germany's world broadcasting service "Deutsche Welle" has also been headquartered in Bonn, further adding to the city's international character.
About 80 per cent of BMZ staff work at the Bonn office.
