Rules: the principles governing the implementation of German development policy
Germany’s development cooperation takes place within a framework of rules. They are known as ‘the principles governing the implementation of development policy’. The aim of these rules is to ensure that due regard is paid to the goals of German development policy in all cooperation with partner countries. These rules are shaped by three sets of determinants:
It is also important to regularly review one's own performance. This is the precondition for ensuring that German development cooperation remains effective and on task, and that it adapts as well as possible to changing conditions. To this end, the BMZ has the results of Germany's development interventions regularly monitored by external consultants. The results of these evaluations, as they are known, allow us to learn from experience, make it possible to optimise the way we work, and demonstrate our accountability to the German tax-payer.
