Günter Nooke in Kenya to talk about Internet and communication innovation

Günter Nooke, the German Chancellor's G8 Personal Representative for Africa at the BMZ, will be travelling to Nairobi (Kenya) from 8 to 11 March 2014.

Within Africa, Kenya is a pioneer in the innovative use of information and communication technologies (ICT), key technologies for sus­tain­able de­vel­op­ment in Africa. Günter Nooke said: "Digitalisation is changing the African continent in a special way and is influencing the lives of its many young people, in particular. Africans have they own specific questions, and they will find their own answers to those questions on the World Wide Web and through the use of information and communication technologies."

During his visit, Günter Nooke will be meeting with the Minister for Information, Communication and Technology, Dr Fred Matiangi, and will engage in discussions about Konza Technology City and Mobile Money. He will also be visiting a health centre where a tablet PC is used to ask patients about they symptoms and to send the data to health clinics by means of ICT.

The Africa Personal Representative will also be attending a conference hosted by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation and give a speech about the role of scientific excellence.
