International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes


The In­ter­na­tional Centre for Settlement of Invest­ment Disputes (ICSID) arbitrates invest­ment disputes between gov­ern­ments and foreign investors. It is currently handling 171 ongoing disputes (as at: April 2013).

ICSID also provides advisory services, undertakes research and issues pub­li­ca­tions with respect to the legal provisions governing foreign invest­ment. ICSID is an independent body within the World Bank group and currently has 147 members (as at: April 2013). Germany has been a member since ICSID was founded in 1966.
