German Cooperative and Raiffeisen Confederation (DGRV)

The German Cooperative and Raiffeisen Confederation (DGRV) was founded in 1972. It is the umbrella organisation of German cooperatives and represents the interests of its members at national and international level, in terms of economic and fiscal policy, and on legal issues. The DGRV also offers consultancy services on questions relating to business organisation, data processing and the education system.

Within the framework of cooperation with the BMZ, projects are currently being implemented in Africa, Latin America, Asia, and Central and South Eastern Europe.

In its development work, the DGRV puts its faith in local business initiative and economic power, with the aim of establishing sustainable self-financing business cooperatives along with the pertinent networking and confederation structures. The focus is on the financial sector (savings and loans cooperatives), manufacturing industry and the agricultural sector (purchasing, sales and marketing cooperatives). The DGRV sees itself primarily as advisor when new structures of this sort are put in place.
