Institute for International Cooperation of the German Adult Education Association (DVV)

Since the early 1960s, the German Adult Education Association (DVV) has worked not only inside Germany but also at international level, currently in more than 40 countries. Literacy and basic education are fostered by providing training and upgrading for teaching staff in developing countries. Through the DVV, the BMZ promotes basic education and training for young people and adults, specialist training and the institutional and physical strengthening of adult education structures in developing and transition states in Africa, Asia, the Pacific, Central and Southern America, and Central and South Eastern Europe.

In Germany, the DVV undertakes development education work, especially at its own adult education centres. Along with regional and global specialist associations for adult education it is also involved at international level in the necessary information and lobbying work. Important focuses of its activities also include environmental and health education, AIDS prevention, empowerment and gender mainstreaming, human rights and democracy, and conflict management and crisis prevention.
