Solar power

Man installs a solar panel on a roof top. Copyright: TransFairTo date, solar energy has covered only a very small portion of the global energy requirement. In 2007 it delivered approximately 0.6 per cent of the power consumed in Germany. Yet solar power has huge potential for the future. And in remote parts of the world in particular, it is already often the best form of energy supply available today.

The BMZ supports projects for solar energy use within the framework of Financial Cooperation. This includes for instance the financing of photovoltaic systems supplying remote villages with electricity. Technical Cooperation measures include for example the delivery of advisory services to public authorities and institutions on market development issues, and the provision of expert training.
